The Beatie Babies: How it Came to This

If you've turned on the TV or surfed the news lately, it's hard to miss the press on the Beatie family and their children. Thomas Beatie, born female, became a male legally after taking hormone therapy and removing his breasts. His female partner inseminated him so that he could give birth to a child (and now a second child). It is wonderful that society is accepting a new and unusual situation as this one.

I can't help but wonder how pressured Mr. Beatie must have felt as a young woman to fit into a specific feminine role, that she decided to become male outwardly (at least from the waist up). We need to acknowledge that males and females have varying degrees and ranges of femininity/masculinity and different role needs. Had Mr. Beatie initially been accepted as a masculine female and remained female, a trinogamous relationship would have allowed the Beatie's to have the family they desired, naturally.

Prop 8 passes in CA, a step backwards for Trinogamy

Overall the election resulted in very favorable outcomes, with one exception - a certain forgotten minority, namely GLBT persons and their partners. Not allowing marriage, civil unions, or other benefits (adoption of children, etc.) for gay/bi couples is a step in the wrong direction for America.

How are we to progress as a society if our relationships cannot progress to be flexible and reflect our new family values? How can we respect a president of a different race if we cannot even respect our friends and neighbors enough to grant them the same basic rights as everyone else?

As for Trinogamy, it will take years once same-sex unions are recognized before the majority of Americans will accept committed relationships between three people. We have a long way to go, but I am confident that things will turn back in the right direction soon!

One man is only legally allowed one wife. A woman is legally only allowed one husband. So can a woman be legally married to a man and woman, or vice versa.

Those 'marriages' are not recognized in the United States. There are no legal advantages to them. If you get insistent, the DA may toss you in the clinck overnight until you've "slept it off".

Yes a three person relationship can legally do everything that a two person marriage can do if set up properly.

It would be considered a contract and would be drawn up by your lawyer, not a marriage. But you can call it anything you want in public, there is no law against that.

The only current disadvantages are work related benefits and government related specifics. (Even two person gay or lesbian marriages have the same problems, currently in about 99% of the United States and probably similar worldwide.)

One can change their name legally via the law, among other things.

33% of people said Bigamy but that is the act of entering into a marriage with one person while still legally married to another.

The idea of Trinogamy is not to get or be married in a church, court house or Las Vegas, but instead to bind yourselves legally with the help of contract law and a lawyer or two.
